Architect John S. Butler designed the French Eclectic style house for Frank and Lois M. Gruber in 1949. Frank Gruber was one of the most prolific western writers of his time, authoring 60 books, almost all of them novels of which 24 were made into motion pictures and of more than 350 published short stories and magazine articles. Among Mr. Gruber's works were such titles as "Tales of Wells Fargo", "The Oregon Trail", "Buffalo Grass", "Town Tamer", "Peace Marshall", "Bugles West", ""Zane Grey, a Biography" and many others.
