Architect George J. Adams designed the Spanish Colonial Revival style house for Walter H. Leimert in 1930. Walter H. Leimert Sr. was one of Los Angeles' best known real estate developers. Born in Oakland, one of 11 children, Mr. Leimert began as a land developer in Oakland and Piedmont and the moved to Southern California in 1925. His best known development was Leimert Park, a program where homebuyers became dues-paying members of a community association, which enforced regulations within the tract and provided gardeners for homes, parkways and parks. Together with his son Walter "Tim" Leimert Jr.., Mr. Leimert developed large portions of Baldwin Hills, Beverlywood, Beverly Highlands and St. Hubert Woods in Santa Ana.
