Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1881 when city founder Nathaniel Coburn Carter purchased the site on which the cemetery is located. John E. Richard, a Civil War veteran and Carter's servant was the first person interred there on July 3, 1882. Of the first seventeen families that lived in Sierra Madre, when it was founded in 1881, twelve of them are buried here.

Old North Church is a historic landmark building built in 1890, one of the oldest churches in Sierra Madre. The church is closely linked with the early settlement of Sierra Madre. It is site #45 on Sierra Madre designated historical landmarks list. The Victorian Gothic style church is located at 191 West Sierra Madre Boulevard.

Victorian style farmhouse originally built as a hotel by real estate investor and Sierra Madre pioneer Nathaniel C. Carter in 1882. Nathaniel Coburn Carter arrived with his wife Annetta Mary Pierce Carter from Massachusetts in the mid- 19th century. He built, owned and operated Sierra Madre's first hotel, the Ocean View House in 1884. He died on September 2, 1904 and was buried at Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery. The property is a Sierra Madre historic landmark (No. 30). Located at 93 West Mira Monte Avenue in Sierra Madre, California.
