Established in 1877, Evergreen Cemetery is the oldest and one of the largest cemeteries in Los Angeles city with over 300,000 interments. Located in one of Los Angeles' oldest neighborhoods, Boyle Heights, the cemetery contains the graves and memorial of some of the city's early pioneer families, former mayors and other political figures. Students of Los Angeles history will recall the names Bixby, Coulter, Hollenbeck, Lankershim, Van Nuys, and Workman all of which are interred at the site.
