The English Gothic style church was designed by English-born architect Thomas P. Barber (1832-1932) in 1929. His works include the McCarty Memorial Christian Church (with Paul Kingsbury in Los Angeles), and the Colorado Springs City Hall and St. Mary's Cathedral both in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The sanctuary of the reinforced concrete structure has a open hammer-beam ceiling copied after the ceiling at Westminster Hall in London, England.

The church was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1981 (No. 248). Located at 6817 Hollywood Boulevard.

Architect Paul Kingsbury designed the Spanish Revival style residence for Danish immigrants Peter and Sadie Elvad in 1924. It was the first of two residences the architect designed for the Elvad family in Los Feliz. Three years later the architect designed a quintessential Spanish villa, The Elvad House on Amesbury Road. Located at 4962 West Cromwell Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Kingsley (1893-1949) had an illustrious career. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture (1916), he joined the firm of John T. Windrim in Philadelphia. When war broke out in Europe, he joined the effort in France (1918-19). Returning home, he found employment at the firm George B. Post & Sons (New York City 1919-1921), before moving to Los Angeles in 1921. After brief stints with William Lee Woolett (1921-1922) and Allison and Allison (1922-23), he formed a partnership with Architect Thomas P. Barber in 1924, together they designed the Gothic Revival McCarty Memorial Church in 1932. Kingsbury also designed the art deco La Marquise Apartments (LACHM # 853) and the Little Country Church of Hollywood (LACHM #567).
