Architect John Lautner originally designed the Modernist enclave as a holiday retreat for movie producer Lucien Hubbard in 1947. The property was rescued in a derelict state by interior designer Tracy Beckman and furniture designer Ryan Trowbridge in 2008 who have expanded the property over the years into a unique compound described as a "micro-resort—a hybrid between luxury rental and boutique hotel."
Donna and I had the occasion to visit the property during Palm Springs Modernism Week 2020 as guests of USModernist®.

Architect William Krisel designed the first Modernist style homes at Racquet Club Road Estates between 1958 and 1962, located in the vicinity of the popular Palm Springs Racquet Club resort. The post and beam homes were built by the Alexander Construction Company. Krisel designed the 1225 square foot houses as weekend getaways on slab with single pane glass and without insulation. Though modestly-sized the houses feel much larger due to the soaring roof line and open concept floor plans.

Architects Donald Wexler and Richard Harrison designed 71 homes in the El Rancho Vista subdivision of Palm Springs between 1959 and 1961. The homes were built by Roy Fey, an accountant from Chicago who moved to the desert and developed a contracting and real estate empire.
