Harold Levitt (1921–2003) received a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Arts from Stanford University and an architecture degree from the University of Southern California. He worked for Roland Coate and Burton Schutt before he founded his own architectural company, Levitt, LeDuc & Farwell, in the 1950s.

He designed homes for Steven Spielberg, Lew Wasserman, Olivia Newton John, Ross Hunter, Quincy Jones, Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, Debbie Reynolds, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers and Hal Wallis. He also designed the Riviera Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip and the headquarters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

Architect Harold Levitt designed the contemporary style house for Milton and Lucile Smith Herbold in 1958. Milton Herbert Herbeld was born on May 28, 1908 in South Dakota. In Los Angeles he became prominent in the cosmetic industry as owner of Herbold Laboratories, Inc. and served on the executive committee of the California Cosmetics Association. He married the former Lucile Smith in Ventura, California on January 7, 1951. He died on September 17, 1980 and was buried at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, Hunt County, Texas.


Architect Harold W. Levitt was an important architect with many celebrity clients including Burt Lancaster, Steven Spielberg, and Lew Wasserman. Jennifer Aniston, MaryKate & Ashley Olsen, Ellen De Generes & Portia DeRossi, and Darren Starr have each acquired and updated Levitt homes. While many of the homes he designed have been razed or altered significantly the best of his intact residences are centered in Beverly Hills, specifically, in the Trousdale Estates enclave. Levitt also designed many notable commercial projects such as the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas and the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences Building in Los Angeles.
