Architect Vincent Palmer designed the Spanish Mediterranean Revival style house for Dr. Henry Sutherland-Campbell in 1927. Little is known about Sutherland-Campbell except that he served on the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, Montreal, Canada and that he maintained a medical office at 1930 Wilshire Boulevard in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Architect George Vincent Palmer (1902-1958) was a member of the American Institute of Architects (1941-1958). Palmer was born in Toronto, Canada on August 12, 1902 where he attended the University of Toronto. He immigrated to the United States in 1921, settling in Detroit, Michigan under the name Vincent Palmer. He attended the University of Southern California Class of 1923 where he was a member of the Architectural Society (1925). He married his wife, Mary Louise on December 12, 1938 in Los Angeles, California, with whom he had a son, George Gordon, born September 14, 1939. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen on April 15, 1940 at which time he lived at 8531 Hedges Way. He helped organize the first annual convention of the California Council of Architects in 1946, held at the Coronado Hotel in San Diego. He did not use his first name, calling himself simply "Vincent Palmer AIA Architect". Although there doesn't seem to be an extant catalog of his work, other buildings Palmer designed include the English Tudor style house at 2221 Chislehurst for Chester and Anna Glass (1927), the Spanish Colonial Revival style house for Dr. Theodore C. Lyster at 2641 North Vermont Avenue (1926) as well as the English Tudor Revival style house for Dr. G.L. Palmer at 514 South Muirfield Road in Hancock Park in 1928.

The 6-bedroom, 5-bath home in 4109 sq. ft. is currently (May 2016) on the market listed for sale for $3.2M and described in the listing as "magnificent walled Spanish behind Gates!! Steps away from Griffith Observatory, Greek Theatre, Roosevelt Golf Course, Shops, Cafes, and acclaimed Theatres! This iconic former celebrity-owned Estate is in rare Period condition with oversized black bottom pool."

The Sutherland-Campbell House is located at 2639 North Vermont Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
