Between 1935 and 1948, Gregory Ain had worked at twelve different office locations. The completion of the firm's office on the border of the Los Feliz and Silver Lake neighborhoods of Los Angeles marked the beginning of an era of stability as the principals began to enjoy a measure of success.

James Garrott, only the second African American to gain an architect's license (after Paul R. Williams) shared the office space, however Garrott worked almost exclusively independent from the others. He was a friend of Gregory Ain, and Ain was instrumental in advancing Garrott's career. Architects Antony Unruh and Trish Boyer currently occupy the office space, located at 2311 Hyperion Avenue.

After visiting the John Lautner-designed Jules Salkin house in Echo Park, I drove around the neighborhood to see what I may have missed on previous excursions. The striking house at 2001 Lemoyne Street designed by Antony Unruh is a real eye-catcher. David R. Finkelstein, known for his work on America's Next Top Model (2003), Big Brother (2000) and The Bachelor (2002) is the home's owner.

Silver Lake-based Architect Tony Unruh has taken a 1950's Post & Beam and expanded the living space to almost 3000 sq. ft. using a successful combination of glass, wood and steel to create a very modern, clean and open design.

The Santoro Residence is located at 2423 Lanterman Terrace. This photo was taken from Panorama Terrace. The property was recently sold for $1,595,000 (July 2006).
