Frankie Faulkner was that rarest of all breeds, a woman architect in the 1930s. At the time, she didn't have a lot of peers, although Julia Morgan, and Lutah Maria Riggs, Edla Muir, and Edith Mortensen Northman were on the scene. Faulkner, designeed several residences in Hollywood and Silver Lake, including this 1930 Spanish (and another across the street at 2210 Moreno Drive in 1928). Frankie Faulkner was born in New York in the 1890s and practiced architecture in Los Angeles from the 1920s until the early 1950s when she relocated to Reno, Nevada. She is especially known for designing in the Spanish Colonial Revival Style and several intact examples of single family homes she designed during the late 1920s in Silver Lake still survive. Her success is remarkable considering she was operating in a highly male-dominated environment and a widow raising a teenage daughter.
