As the deadline for submitting the manuscript for my forthcoming book, Silver Lake Bohemia: How America's Hipster Capital Got its Mojo is fast approaching, I wanted to make a point of getting a more satisfactory photo of the Lipetz House, designed by architect Raphael Soriano in 1935. The house caused a sensation when it was presented at the American Pavilion at the Paris Exposition of 1937, winning the prestigious Prix de Rome, outperforming two entries submitted by Richard Neutra.

I had visited the house twice before, the first time when it came on the market several years ago, and a second time German photographer Martin Schall (www.you-are-here.com) paid me a visit and we went on a Silver Lake photo safari together. Thankfully the current owners have done a marvelous job of bringing the house back to life and invited me yesterday to snap these photos.

The Lipetz House is located at 1842 North Dillon Street in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Please do not use this image in any media without my permission. © All rights reserved.
