Taking a stroll down Prospect Boulevard, and its "sister" streets, Prospect Crescent, Prospect Terrace, and Prospect Square in Pasadena as I did yesterday is a real sensory experience. The entire district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and deservedly so. Protected by a canopy of oak and camphor trees, the district is an eclectic mix of architectural styles, many designed by well known architects. The French Normandy style house at 530 Prospect Boulevard designed by architect David Ogilvie for H. Grandin in 1928 is representative of the inventory.

David Ogilvie designed several houses in Pasadena in the late twenties; all would seem to be in the English Tudor style, perhaps suggesting a carryover influence from Clan Ogilvy of Scottish Highlands fame.

The Smith House is typical of Ogilvie's work, located at 181 La Vereda Road in the Upper Arroyo neighborhood of Pasadena. Please do not use this image in any media without my permission. © All rights reserved.
