I have driven through Echo Park a thousand times during which it is impossible to miss the huge mural that completely covers the commercial bulding at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue. The intersection is named for Leo Politi, an Italian-American artist and author who lived in Echo Park at 845 East Edgeware Road (a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, No. 218). In March 1996, Politi passed away in the house, however his memory lives on in several local locations in addition to the Leo Politi Square, including the Monticillo de Leo Politi Park, and the Leo Politi Elementary School.
