We can be glad that the Bonadiman family liked to have their picture taken, for it has preserved for future generations a remarkable record of Silver Lake history. In the photo, Carlo Bonadiman (front row, from the left) poses for the camera with his wife Domenica and Charles, with Mary, Joseph and Rose in the back row.

Carlo, eldest son of Emanuele and Maria Bonadiman who arrived with his parents in Los Angeles in 1887, settling at first near La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Ángeles, the historic Catholic church in the old plaza in downtown Los Angels. By 1889 the family had moved to a rented farm in what is now Silver Lake; two years later Carlo married Domenica Passorini from one of the families that traveled with the Bonadimans when they left Texas in 1885. In March 1914, Carlo started off in a covered wagon headed for Apple Valley, where he had taken up a 160 acre homestead and started a new adventure with an apple orchard.

Emanuele Bonadiman, patriarch of the Bonadiman family in Los Angeles, is shown working with a scythe on the farm rented from George Smith in the Silver Lake vicinity. In the background is the home his son Carlo built in 1905 and to which the family moved after the ranch was subdivided.
