Los Feliz pioneer and developer William Mead was the original owner of the Mediterranean Estate designed by the distinguished architect Elmer Grey in 1915. Mead sold the house to John Luckenbach, an extensive property owner and president of Luckenbach Jewelry Company. Like Mead, Luckenbach was politically connected. He served as campaign manager for progressive socialist Henry R. Rose, the 29th Mayor of Los Angeles from July 1913 to July 1915.
