Chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr., had the mansion "La Colina Solana" – the sunny hill built as a 50th wedding anniversary gift for his wife, Ada. The architect Earl Heitschmidt designed the home in a Spanish Colonial Revival style, with influences from California Monterey and Mediterranean architecture.

The Wrigleys only used the Mansion as a "winter cottage"; it was the smallest of the Wrigley homes with 16,850 square feet, 24 rooms, 12 bathrooms and 11 fireplaces. Their other homes were located in Chicago, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Pasadena, California.

The Mansion now operates as The Inn at Mt. Ida, a private hotel.
