Ladera Heights is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County lying between Culver City to its west, Baldwin Hills to its north and Westchester to its south and southwest. In the 1960s and 1970s prominent builders including Valentine and Gallant many designed by Robert Earl built custom homes in the neighborhood. The neighborhood became known as a popular as home for African Americans including baseball great Frank Robinson as well as other celebrities including Vanessa Williams, Chris Darden, Chris Strait, Lisa Leslie, Olympia Scott, Ken Norton, Arron Afflalo, Tyler, The Creator, and Byron Scott. Unfortunately original building permits for unincorporated Los Angeles County are not easy to come by. Perhaps one day I will be able to learn more about the original designer of these homes, but for now, we'll have to be satisfied with just the photo and year of completion.

The home of the Rev. Dr. George Regas, for 28 years the rector of All Saints Church in Pasadena, a progressive congregation noted for its opposition to the Vietnam War, the nuclear arms race, the covert wars in Central America, and the Gulf Wars. Under his leadership, the church established the largest AIDS service center in the San Gabriel Valley; supervised the creation of the Young & Healthy Program, which serves uninsured and under-insured children; and established the homeless shelter, Union Station.

In 1998, Dr. Regas founded The Regas Institute, dedicated to the study and examination of Progressive Religion that seeks to counter the dominance of the Religious Right. The Regas Institute seeks to organize and advocate locally and nationally for a Progressive Religion that speaks and acts on both economic and racial justice, as well as gender equality, gay justice and reproductive choice.

Located at 819 Las Palmas Road in Pasadena, California, the house, known otherwise as the Bridge House is currently (November 2014) on the market listed for sale for $1.9M and described in the listing as "magical, stylish example of Modernism by the designer of the Norton Simon Museum, combines glass, wood and concrete into a striking work of art".

Architect Frank L. Meline designed the Prairie Style residence for W. M. Rayley in 1915. The 1700 and 1800 blocks of North Wilton Place in the East Hollywood (Thai Town) neighborhood of Los Angeles has a delightful mix of substantial homes and apartment buildings built between the early 1900s and the 1920s, when the neighborhood was more affluent. In recent years, as Hollywood has been making a strong comeback, so have the neighborhoods surrounding it. The Prairie style residence located at 1815 North Wilton Place and shown here is a good example.
