Architect Paul R. Williams designed the Modernist style Nickerson Gardens in 1955. The complex consists of 156 buildings with 1066 one-bedroom units. Owned and operated by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, Nickerson Gardens is the largest public housing project west of the Mississippi River.
