Architects Frederick Fisher & Partners with James Corner Field Operations as landscape architects designed Tongva Park in 2014. The park honors the Tongva Indian tribe indigenous to the Los Angeles basin for 7,000 years as documented through archeological discovery, occupying villages from Malibu to Newport Beach and inland to the San Bernardino Mountains. Their culture was systematically destroyed through broken treaties, assimilation and attempts of conversion and enslavement by Catholic missionaries.
