The sophistication of Mayan civilization is on full display in Uxmal, an ancient city located about an hour south of Mérida , Mexico In size and scope it rivals the more well-known Chichén Itzá, however it wasn’t inundated with throngs of people the day we visited, allowing for a much more intimate experience. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its buildings are typical of the Puuc style noted for their style and decoration.
