The house was not originally designed by Paul Williams, however the famous architect did a complete makeover of the property for the second owners David & Patrice Swedlow in 1949..
David Abraham Swedlow was born in Denver, Colorado on May 31, 1911. Swedlow began his career in 1934 making display items for department stores and movie studios. A movie newsreel touting a new material, acrylic, captured his imagination and he experimented for several years in a Hollywood garage, heating, molding and shaping the material.
He founded Swedlow Inc. before World War II. The company manufactured windshields, windows and canopies for military jets. After the war, it also made parts for commercial and military aircraft. He died at home in Corona del Mar after lengthy treatment at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Newport Beach on January 24, 1991. He was cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea by his family.
