The Alte Land
Long walks through orchards, past half-timbered houses, constantly surrounded by masses of blossoms from the fruit trees… welcome to the Alte Land. The Alte Land is a beautiful area with curved dykes and straight canals which help regulate the water level.
Apples, pears, cherries, plums and damsons are the features of this extraordinary natural paradise to the south-east of Stade which is the greatest single fruit-growing area in northern Europe.
The traditions of this rich farming area are visible everywhere. Colourful Alte Land brick design, splendid estates, well-preserved windmills. It has much to offer – not only fruit-growing.
