Tirrenia is the leading company concerning maritime transport in Italy.
The Company was founded December 21st, 1936 in Naples, where headquarter stands today inside Caravita Sirignano Palace. As a result of the agreement with the Government, signed in July 2012, is the holder of the public service connection with the larger islands, ensuring territorial continuity to residents of Sardinia, Sicily and the Tremiti Islands, connecting with cargo ships and passenger ships the most important Italian and Mediterranean ports, throughout the whole year. Here are some examples: Tirrenia connects Sardinia from the Port of Genoa to Porto Torres and Olbia and from Civitavecchia to the ports of Olbia and Cagliari and from Naples to Cagliari. Also joining the two main islands through lines Cagliari-Palermo and Cagliari Trapani. The Company also operates all-cargo units with Sicily: the Livorno-Cagliari operates from the Tyrrhenian Sea to Sardinia and the line Ravenna-Catania joining Adriatic to Sicily.
