Towards the end of the demonstration, the right wing crowd leaves the square, the counter demonstrators follow them to to be seen driving them off and the police minimizes the interface while the guy with the megaphone comments on how "... the German police is again protecting Nazi demonstrators... ". There was actually another demonstration going on around the EZB at the same time, PhotoHeuristic does have a bunch of pictures from it as a part of a nice series Corona series: www.flickr.com/photos/39453974@N04/

Pictures of the counter demonstration without pictures of the demonstration, that would be incomplete, wouldn't it? Between two speakers, the organizers performed a scene of Michael Ende's Rattenfänger (the Pied Piper of Hamelin) to educate the unruly "youth" on the other side of the police cordon. How that made sense I can only presume, but considering that Michael Ende is a respected and hugely popular popular children fiction author, and that Henryk Stöckl - a notorious crafter of nationalistic fake news - was filming his smug smile for Youtube just behind me while I was taking this picture, I would bet the original sense of the play was being twisted quite a bit. Whether the bottle of wine on the table was a prop or a source of inspiration I cannot say, though the latter alternative could explain a few things about that performance. There were some Rattenfänger signs in the counter demonstrations, so it must have become a commonly understood reference in this context.

I make myself a rule of publishing only pictures I honestly think their subjects would like. However, if you'd rather not see yourself here, let me know (www.flickr.com/people/matthiasrabiller/), and I'll remove the image from my stream. Besides, I might have made pictures of you that you'd like to have but have (not) yet appeared on this page. Maybe I messed up, maybe it's not developped yet... don't hesitate co contact me I'll let you know.

Towards the end of the demonstration things became a bit confuse, with the counter demonstrators insisting to escort the demonstrators off the premices. People started to yell at each other across the police cordon, then request the police to file complaints about abuse and threats of violence. I saw two rather unimpressed officers interviewing a demonstrator (no idea whether he was from the fascist, conspiracy theorist or yet another side of things):

- You have to file my complaint! That old man insulted me!
- Hum... what did he say?
- He called me Nazi scum!
- What was the exact wording?
- I don't know, I can't remember! Just file the complaint, I'll come up with something later. I'll remember then!

Coming from someone who was a few moments earlier demonstrating against the government's alleged bending of truth. Ironic, isn't it?

If you still think large European rivers are natural, well, think again... most of them have been essentially turned into canals. You regularly see this kind of barge keeping them orderly and well mannered, usually with an excavator armed with a shovel or some branch cutting contraption...
This was made with my first roll on a recently acquired Seagull 203. I got it off eBay for less than about 15 Euros, its nondescript condition probably scared of the competition. The poor thing was indeed in a sorry state. Shutter terminally stuck, everything covered in a sticky grime, rangefinder completely off... but hey, how often do you find a coupled MF rangefinder for cheap? I thought I had fixed it until I realized at the end of the roll that I am missing the button to pull out the peg that holds the exposed film spool. And it needs to be attached with a nonstandard screw somewhere between M2 and M3. Still figuring out how to fix that. It's a decent folder, the possibility of choosing between 6x6 and 645 is a nice plus, the Chinese characters on it look real neat (my Chinese colleagues tell me they literally stand for "Sea" and "Gull"), but it's nowhere close to the feeling of quality the Perkeo oozes. The viewfinder's framing is rather approximative, and the way the way the shutter button gets blocked as soon as you move the rewind lever ever so slightly is rather annoying. Bottom line? I'm quite happy I got it.
