Sunday it was Carnaval in Frankfurt again. We might not be Cologne or Mainz, but it's a big popular party on the streets anyways. I figured Dennis Hopper's photojournalist character in Apocalypse Now would be a perfect persona for the occasion, got myself a miltary jacket from the flea market, a hippie wig, and went for it with five cameras and ways too much film. It was certainly fun! Looking at my past work I realized I wanted to frame portraits a bit better - I tend to unconsciously put the face in the middle of the frame and get closer. Absolutely not a natural thing for me, but hey, nobody said it had to be easy. It worked great though, met a lot of very friendly folks, good time, really, very much looking forwards to next year.
Kodak Tri-X 400 in Rodinal 1+50 for 13 Minutes @ 20°C, digitalized using kit zoom with macro rings.. This picture was taken with a Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 lens and a Canon AE-1 Programm. The camera I got at the flea market the same day as the military jacket. The shutter feels and sounds a bit weird, but oh boy, does it have a sweet viewfinder! An absolute pleasure.
