Meet Marvin, our favourite squirrel. He may be 4 nuts short of a 6 pack but what he lacks in the tail department, he more than compensates for with his agility, gymnastic skills and ropework, not to mention base jumping, I’ve even got him planting bulbs in the garden!

He turns up very day, regular as clockwork, 7.45am for his breakfast, he’s then back for his elevenses, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea, dinner, supper……he’s a hungry boy our Marvin.

He tells me he wants to be a Flying Squirrel when he grows up, he just needs to develop his patagium.

It’s not uncommon for a squirrel to lose its tail, it may have been caught in a fence or possibly by predation. The tail is essential for survival and serves multiple purposes, heat regulation, balance and to warn of danger, they can also be used for protection from the rain and to keep the animal warm in colder weather. The life expectancy may well be reduced if the tail is lost but so far, little Marvin is surviving quite happily.

The Grey Squirrel is often looked upon as a pest and there is no doubt that it poses a great threat to our native Red squirrel, but we are to blame for their residency; they were brought over from America in the late 19th century as an ornamental species to satisfy the curiosity of the Victorian aristocracy. So, they are here to stay. The important point is that they are not established in all regions, and it is essential to maintain this if our native Red population is not to be threatened. It is often thought that they are successful invaders, but research has shown that populations are often established by transportation by humans. A squirrel was found on the Isle of Skye and genetic profiling confirmed the report that he was from Glasgow, his accent gave him away, and he had stowed away under a car bonnet.
They’re clever little buggers these squirrels!

WARNING, this post contains waterfalls, lots of waterfalls, and it’s just over 7 minutes long, so if you don’t have time, just walk on by, I won’t be offended. If however, you can spare a little time to listen to some beautiful music then make yourself a cup of tea, find a comfortable seat and chill, just watch out for the red herring.


This was really just an exercise for me to use Photoshop’s Timeline which I’m unfamiliar with and at times the ‘old dog, new tricks’ adage came to mind but whilst putting the images together with this hauntingly beautiful music, my overriding thought was how fortunate we are not to worry if we will see the sun set at the end of the day. My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine.


If you do decide to lose 7 minutes you’ll never get back then press L for the larger version on laptop or PC, watch in landscape on a phone, but definitely listen through headphones because the sound's pretty c*** otherwise, not sure why, although it does sound like running water! If anyone can explain I'd be grateful.

It’s great to have a bit of help around the garden and here’s Bertie giving his den a bit of a Spring clean!

Martha just looks on bemused thinking ‘what a nutjob’! Although she can’t talk (obviously, she’s a dog, that would be silly).
Questioning Bertie’s sanity? She hasn’t got a leg to stand on, as you can tell from her posture.

In fairness, Bertie is a bit of a psycho and a little ‘special’, but we love him to bits……….

WIRRAL RESIDENTS EAGERLY AWAIT THE INSTALLATION OF CENTRAL HEATING AND RUNNING HOT WATER!

In a brief statement before collapsing with suspected hypothermia, spokesperson Steve Shivers said-

‘fffffor fffffar tttttoo llllong the people of Wirral have been the poor relations of Merseyside, over in Liverpool for example, they have such modern luxuries as inside toilets and wheelie bins, so hot water can’t come a day too soon. It will really put the borough on the map, which will be a great thing as no one outside the peninsula knows where the f*** Wirral is anyway!’
