Day 4 - A herd of Pronghorns run off in the middle distance as we travel up through Wyoming towards the Black Hills in South Dakota. We collected my sister and brother in law at Denver airport last night, and now our trip is really underway.

Day 5 - We're now in South Dakota, in the Black Hills. We encountered our first herd of Bison in Custer.

The bull bison must be one of the most miserable creatures to exist. It spends all its time ensuring its cow is not taken by another bull. It seems to never end as they don't spilt up into pairs, but are still part of a herd of a 1000 or more, and so threats come constantly from the unattached bulls.

Day 6 - The South Dakota Badlands, and if you look closely, in the center a big horned sheep and her lamb.

I spent a while watching both, nimbly run up and down the cliff faces, hopping from ridge to ridge without once losing their foothold, grabbing the occasional mouthful of green.

Day 1 of this summer's roadtrip. Passing through Southeastern Oregon on the way to Boise this evening. I believe this is the Malheur River.

Day 2 - The Perrine Bridge is about 1500 feet (1/2 km) across and 500 feet (150m) above the river. It carries a 4 lane highway across the Snake River Canyon and into Twin Falls, Idaho. Up at the bridge level, the land seems flat with no indication of the canyon until you arrive at its edge.

Always, one of my favorite stops, when heading east.

We traveled from Boise, Idaho today, across to Ogden, Utah.
