Phasianus colchicus is a native species of Asia and SE parts of Europe. Was known to ancient Europeans as being from Colchis (kingdom of present-day Georgia), hence the Latin name.
Raised on farms and introduced for hunting since ancient Rome, the species is highly hybridized today. The last "authentic" indigenous individuals in Europe lived in 2009 in a number of approx. 200 specimens in the Kotza-Orman forest in the Nestos river delta, Greece.

Last shot of the day, just before the sun got fully below the horizon. Since already at ISO 3200, took a long burst of 1/60s images in the hope I'll get 1-2 sharp in the bunch. I dit, but still, one leg is blurred to oblivion... :-)
