The station became port of entry for immigrants also promoting the small village of drovers to a major metropolis. This importance given to São Paulo Railway Station, as it was officially known, lasted until the end of World War II. After this period, the railway was being replaced by airplanes, buses and cars, much faster than trains.

In 1946, the building of Light was partially destroyed by fire. The reconstruction of the station is funded by the government of the Sao Paulo and continued until 1951, when it was reopened. She also went through other reforms and restorations. Already in 1982 the architectural complex of the Light Station was listed by the Defense Council of the Historical, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourism (Condephaat).
