Bellver Castle is a Gothic-style castle on a hill 3 km to the west of the center of Palma on the Island of Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. It was built in the 14th century for King James II of Majorca, and is one of the few circular castles in Europe. First serving as the residence of the Kings of Majorca, and afterward long used as a military prison throughout the 18th to mid-20th century, it is now under civilian control, being one of the main tourist attractions of the island, as well as the seat for the city's History Museum.
In 1931, the Spanish government gave the castle to the city of Palma, along with the forest surrounding it. It became a museum in 1932, being restored in 1976 to become the city's History museum. Thanks to the parking lot and road built next to the castle, it currently welcomes a great number of visitors. The main yard is the seat to many different public ceremonies, such as protocollary and cultural acts, and concerts. Due to its location and visibility from the sea or any other point of the city, it has become one the city's symbols.
The surrounding forest encloses the stables of the city's Mounted Peelers.
The Sunday following Easter Sunday, the citizens gather at the forest and the castle for the celebration of the Diumenge de l'Àngel.

El castillo de Bellver es una fortificación de estilo gótico. Está situado a unos tres kilómetros de la ciudad de Palma de Mallorca, en la isla de Mallorca, España. Fue construido a principios del siglo XIV por orden del rey Jaime II de Mallorca. Se encuentra sobre un monte de 112 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en una zona rodeada de bosque, desde donde se puede contemplar la ciudad, el puerto, la sierra de Tramuntana y el Pla de Mallorca; de hecho, su nombre viene del mallorquín antiguo bell veer, que significa «bella vista». Una de sus peculiaridades es que se trata de uno de los pocos castillos de toda Europa de planta circular, siendo el más antiguo de estos. Actualmente pertenece al Ayuntamiento de Palma, y en él se encuentra el Museo de Historia de la ciudad de Palma, por lo que está abierto al público.
En 1931 el gobierno de España cedió el castillo a la ciudad de Palma, junto con el bosque que lo rodea. En 1932 se convirtió en museo, siendo renovado en 1976 para convertirse en el Museo de Historia de Palma de Mallorca, conteniendo una colección de esculturas clásicas del cardenal Despuig. Gracias a la carretera y el aparcamiento que se construyeron, actualmente el castillo recibe un gran número de visitantes. El patio es sede de gran variedad de actos protocolarios, conciertos y actos culturales. Desde los años 90 suele utilizarse también para bodas civiles. Su situación y visibilidad desde el mar y desde cualquier punto de la ciudad lo han convertido en uno de los símbolos de la ciudad.
En el recinto del bosque de Bellver se encuentran los establos de la policía montada municipal. Hay también una larga cueva que durante años se utilizó como depósito municipal de vehículos y que se dice que está comunicada con la catedral de Palma.
Desde el barrio de El Terreno se puede llegar al castillo por un camino empedrado que se construyó para subir artillería al castillo. Se conoce como calle del Polvorín.
El segundo domingo de Pascua, día del Ángel Custodio, los palmesanos se juntan en el bosque de Bellver para la celebración del Diumenge de l'Àngel.
Desde mediados del 2016 alberga también la Biblioteca Auxiliar Alexandre Jaume especializada en la vida del regidor municipal que le da nombre, la memoria histórica en Baleares y la propia historia del castillo-prisión.

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is the Alcázar (fortified palace) of Palma, the capital city of the Island of Majorca, Spain.
This imposing alcázar, known at the time of the conquest with the name of "Zuda", was rebuilt in 1309 by the king James II of Majorca, according to the model of the Royal Palace of Perpignan. In La Almudaina, the monarchs of the Kingdom of Majorca, the Aragonese monarchs and Spanish monarchs had their court successively. Philip II of Spain destined the "Tinell" to Real Audiencia and installed in the rest of the building the General Captaincy of the Islands.
The current structure of La Almudaina corresponds to the one built in the 14th century with its different spaces; the palaces of the King and of the Queen, the chapel of Saint Anne or the baths, are the most outstanding.
Its decoration presents two environments, on the ground floor the medieval style is recreated with works from the 15th to the 20th centuries. The upper floor, used for the celebration of official acts of the Royal Family, is decorated with objects and furniture from other Royal Sites of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The current castle, of Roman origin, is a modification of the Muslim alcázar begun in 1281, it lasted until 1343, during the reigns of James II of Majorca , son of James I of Aragon, Sancho of Majorca and James III of Majorca. La Almudaina was the seat of the prosperous Majorcan kingdom of 14th century, during the reigns of the aforementioned monarch and his successors Sancho of Majorca and James III of Majorca, until passing to the Crown of Aragon with Peter IV in 1349.
During the first half of 16th century the upper floor was built by order of the king Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.
In the same way as in the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, is the official summer residence of the King, as well as other members of the Spanish Royal Family, who also reside in the Palau de Marivent and in the Palacio de la Zarzuela in Madrid.

La Almudaina es el Palacio Real o Alcázar Real de la ciudad de Palma de Mallorca, en España, y una de las residencias de la Familia Real Española, gestionada por el organismo público Patrimonio Nacional. Recoge en sus muros la historia de las islas desde los asentamientos megalíticos.
Este imponente alcázar, conocido en la época de la conquista con el nombre de "Zuda", fue reedificado en 1309 por el rey Jaime II, según modelo del Palacio Real de Perpiñán. En La Almudaina tuvieron sucesivamente su corte los monarcas del reino de Mallorca, los de Aragón y los de España. Felipe II destinó el "Tinell" a Real Audiencia e instaló en el resto del edificio la Capitanía General de las Islas.
La estructura actual de La Almudaina corresponde a la construida en el siglo XIV con sus diferentes espacios; los palacios del Rey y de la Reina, la capilla de Santa Ana o los baños, son los más destacados.
Su decoración presenta dos ambientes. dn la planta baja se recrea el estilo medieval con obras del siglo XV al XX. La planta superior, utilizada para la celebración de actos oficiales de la Familia Real, está decorada con objetos y mobilario procedentes de otros Reales Sitios de los siglos XVII, XVIII y XIX.
El castillo actual, de origen romano, es una modificación del alcázar musulmán iniciado en 1281, se prolongó hasta 1343, durante los reinados de Jaime II, hijo de Jaime I el Conquistador, Sancho I y Jaime III. La Almudaina fue la sede del próspero reino mallorquín del siglo XIV, durante los reinados del citado monarca y de sus sucesores Sancho I y Jaime III, hasta pasar a la Corona de Aragón con Pedro IV en 1349.
Durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI se construyó la planta alta por orden del rey Carlos I de España.
Del mismo modo que en Madrid el Palacio de Oriente, el Palacio Real de La Almudaina, es la residencia oficial de verano del Rey, si bien habita efectivamente junto al resto de la Familia Real Española en el Palacio de Marivent, como ocurre en Madrid con el Palacio de la Zarzuela.
