Got this shoulder injury, "posterior impingement syndrome", been paddling wrong when I surf, very fixable...went to the doctor because it just wasn't getting better.
I wasn't changing anything..and yet it wasn't improving! Crazy!
Had the same problem with sunrise photo sessions...I kept setting them for way too early, by the time the sun went up, I was sleepy, frustrated I'd timed things wrong.
But then I'd schedule another one, do the same thing, set our meet-up time for a good hour before sunrise...maybe I was worried we'd miss the good bit of sunrise, but I ended up overcompensating...
As I get older, it's actually getting easier for me to make adjustments, to admit a thing isn't working, change it up. Old dogs can't learn new tricks...what a goddamn silly saying!

In 2018, I was invincible. I could go where I wanted, when I wanted, photograph anybody, interview anybody, I felt like the king of my domain.
Found Kiliii on instagram, incredible National Geographic photographer, he focuses on Arctic Indigenous communities, fantastic stuff, the kind of work I wasn't seeing from anyone else.
Perfect person to interview for The Photographic Journal. And because I was feeling so good, I flew up to Seattle to photograph him myself.
We of course used the more serious photos for the interview, but I've always dug this one, his work is serious and heavy with meaning, but he's a very light-hearted guy! We had a great time on the shoot, and as that's what I remember, this becomes the photograph I most associate with that day.
