Funny thing about meeting folks from the internet: you meet, things go well, and then you're back to your life.

Met Lauren, had a ball, and then it was over, she back on her side of the internet world, me on mine.

Met Traci and Larissa and Jason and a bunch of other folks on the road during my trip, spent rich fun times with them, but then it's back home.

It's a bit like summer camp. "Keep in touch!" But it's never like it was, until you see 'em again.

Lives like lines on paper, occasionally intersecting.

Took this while doing a shoot for a shoe company. Probably mentioned that shoot before, not my favorite time.

I shoot for myself, and I'm happy. I shoot with a boss, not so much.

Shot a basketball player the other day, and at first, that was the problem, I was thinking of what they wanted, what I needed to give them. Stifling.

But I soon relaxed, realized they wanted what I give folks, and so I just shot as I normally would. Turned out wicked.

This isn't a recommendation, "do what you want no matter what!"

But it's what I strive for. Shoot for myself, no matter what the pictures are for. Shoot because I enjoy it, because it's what I love.

There are no shoes in this shot. Ahhhhhhh.

It was almost like a game.

I asked her if she wanted to shoot at sunrise.

She asked me if I wanted to shoot her on her trapeze.

I asked her if she wanted to shoot around her house.

She asked me if I wanted to shoot on the beach.

Daring each other.

And, oh man, I hate Venice Beach. Hate all the people milling around, even at sunrise. Hate the chintzy shops, the people selling henna tattoos, the cheap sunglasses, the hobos.

My dad used to take me, when I was a wee child. We'd go and walk the length of the boardwalk, for reasons I still to this day do not understand. Maybe he was looking for women.

Probably he was looking for women.

But for me it was just lots and lots and lots of people doing strange things I had no interest in.

Kristin and I are shooting, and even though it's 7am, there are joggers and homeless and couples who want to go on the swings for two minutes and beach workers and a son and his daughter running at high speed and creepy guys in vans with darkened windows.

But I'm taking pictures. Not just walking along, holding my dad's hand, bored out of my mind.

Doesn't bother me so much, this one time.
