Oh, how I have felt the puppetmaster this morning, as I decided which photo to post. I spent last night scanning a good 40 shots from san francisco, i've still got a few good katie west shots, i've only posted one shot from my shoot with natasha. it's an embarrassment of riches, it's the paralysis of choice!!!

i'll save katie and natasha for another day. SF is on my mind, so SF is getting posted.

Drew & I arrived friday evening, picked up Julia, went to Kris' house, where we found Whitney wasted. W.A.S.T.E.D. She was throwing rocks and drunk dialing and almost falling down a ladder. We had to usher her off the roof using a neighbor's apartment. It was awesome.

If you don't know who these people are, well, then too bad. These are the stories, folks, learn the rules. Search their names, you'll find 'em.

So friday night we hang out on Kris' roof, meet his fresh roommates. This is one of them. This is Graham. Graham does a stellar impression of Daniel Day Lewis from There Will Be Blood, so good that for the rest of the weekend we've all been doing it. The entire drive back to los angeles, six hours, we were doing variations on it, substituting mcnuggets, smoothies, on-ramps, all manner of madness, for the Oil that runs through the film.

"Now, I'm a nugget man. This is my son, HW, he's also a nugget man."

Basically, Graham is responsible for Drew & I going insane on the drive home.

There are many things I like about Graham, but this is the one I'm thinking of right now.

Also, I had no idea I was gonna post this until halfway through the writing of this description. I was going to post a photo of a hot girl, because, you know, snake charmer/that's what I do. But the Daniel Day Lewis thing popped up, and it was suddenly all about Graham.

Welcome to my mind.

Oh hey, and while you're here, BUY MY BOOK!!! Please see MY PROFILE for the link.

The plan was to do this chronologically, take you through the whole SF trip in much the same way it happened.

But I am an artiste!! So instead of the other photos taken on the roof, or even the shots taken the next day, let's skip straight to Sunday.

Miamizeiss found us a model and a location, and we wrecked shop.

We went to the Marin Headlands, which is without a doubt the best place on the whole planet. There's a beach, a field, a forest, a mountain range, old army barracks, a tunnel carved into the middle of a mountain. Endless possibilities. We started in the field, amongst the tall grass, then made our way towards the beach, but as we were driving, both Julia and myself at the same time saw this small patch of sunflowers along the side of the road.

I pulled a truncated Steve McQueen from Bullitt, spun the rented chrysler 300 into a stop right in front of the patch. We ushered our SUPERB model Celisse (god damn she's amazing, just wait until i post the close ups, JUST FUCKING WAIT), me telling her not to step on any of the flowers (mom's a hippie, what?), Julia telling her to lay right down on the motherfuckers.

I don't think she or I took a single bad shot that day.

Oh, and this is from the camera I hate. And the film I hate. That's how good the day's vibes were. Even my peel apart polaroid shots came out.

Thanks to Julia, because she's the best I know, and Celisse, who is so hot I wanna punch myself in the hoo ha, but so sweet I feel like I swallowed a giant cube of sugar. mmmmmmmmmm.

Oh, and all this? Yesterday? Today? This is just the warm up.

CAN YOU FUCKING STAND IT?????

Friday evening we arrived, headed straight for Kristopher's house. Where, as previously mentioned, Whitney was drunk. Fortunately for Whitney, these girls were there, too. They're the ones fed her, though that didn't work out so well. They're the ones watched out for her before we arrived. They're the ones suggested we walk her down using a neighbor's apartment.

I barely spoke to them, but they're gorgeous, and that's gotta count for something.

Also, they didn't run screaming like banshees when I pointed my camera at them, which makes them a-okay in my book.

We all sat up on the roof watching the sun go down, enjoying the unseasonable SF warmth. Damn fine view Kris has, a full 360 of the city, and apparently hanging out on the roof, just relaxing and taking it all in is something they do rather often.

I'd almost consider moving for a roof like that.

What could I possibly say? Sometimes the photo speaks for itself.

Oh, fine, I can't help myself. This lady was born to be photographed. And she knows it. But, surprisingly, she's quite humble about it, actually finds joy in modeling, even if there's no money, it's not quite about the money, though money would be good. Which I can definitely relate to.

I'd not quite relished the idea of working with someone who actually considers themselves a model, but I must admit it's nice to have someone who moves freely, who adjusts with ease to the photographer's requests.

Maybe that's just the result of people on both sides of the camera doing something they enjoy.

Also, it's friday, which means payday, which means BUY MY BOOK.

She was just magnificent. As a rule, I've avoided working with anyone who does any kind of "professional" modeling. But Celisse was...I really couldn't have asked for a better model. She was perfect. Perfectly willing, perfectly accommodating, adventurous, had some great ideas that she wasn't afraid to mention, brought some of her own costumes, just enjoyed being involved in the process, and so made us enjoy the shoot all the more.

And working with a model who knows a bit about how she photographs, about what kinds of expressions work, who can switch it up with a minimum amount of direction, all that allows me the photographer to experiment more, to try new things. It's an all-around conducive atmosphere to making magic.

Think I might need to find me some more of these, how do you say, models?

Oh, and hey, models don't come cheap, so BUY MY BOOK!!! Please see MY PROFILE for the link!!!!!!!
