yesterday i had my first photo shoot of the new year. haven't stopped taking pictures, but yesterday was the first time in a long time I'd been able to schedule a new model and take her picture for as long as I wanted.

Oh, this is Sabrina. Sabrina is one of the best friends of one of my oldest friends.

Sabrina has herself an awesome house, shared with two others, in a fairly fantastic area in LA, deep in the heart of the hassidic enclave. Great light, even on a rainy day, gorgeous deck, wildly interesting design to the whole place, lots of fun to romp around.

They had a party there last friday, but upon discovering that Sabrina would be the only person I'd know, I decided against going. I've come a long way, socially, but I still don't look forward to the idea of being in a roomful of strangers. Unless they're all there to see me.

Which they weren't.

But I digress.

Sabrina was an excellent model, an actress by trade, she was comfortable in front of the camera but not, as I fear when shooting people who make their living being in front of one kind of camera or another, fake.

Not that I could tell, anyway.

Lots more new photos to come.

Ooh, also, this film? Not actually expired, but it came to me by way of a friend who had brought it from another state, packed it away in some luggage, leading me to believe it got zapped by the x-rays, thus resulting in the faint yellow cast you see here.

Which I hate. But still, free's free.

We talked. My second favorite part of photo shoots, talking. I knew the shoot was going well because several times I actually forgot to take pictures, my camera sitting idle in my hands, ignored while we talked about relationships, how mentioning that I had caught fire once was mildly emasculating, weird country songs about odd smelling genitals and even stranger pop songs about serial killers, why girls wear certain dresses, that size totally matters, the worst one night stands we've had.

I was also a wee bit concerned, as this was the first shoot I'd done since becoming single. I always considered being in a relationship a bit of a shield against the Creepy Photography Guy handle, that I was taking pictures of people because I actually wanted to take pictures, as opposed to using it as some kind of ruse to snag dames.

Wasn't a problem, this time. But it's something that's gonna hover over my shoots, and that bugs me.

I should probably show you Sabrina's eyes, as they were also a topic of discussion between us. Next time.

Sabrina wasn't sure what color her eyes were. Sometimes green, sometimes blue, shifting depending on the light. I gave 'em a good look, split the difference and officially called them as blue-green.

I am the decider.

Not that it was a chore looking at them eyes. Except when she was proving to me that she could cry on command. That was both disturbing and captivating. Damn actors.

Been meaning to put this up for awhile. This is probably my favorite shot of Sabrina, I hope the reasons are clear.

The New York trip comes to an end today, I'll have shots up tomorrow, big thanks ahead of time to my sweet ass hosts Jen & Scott, the folks who met up with me, knowing nothing more than my photos, the folks who came out to a vaguely smelly bar in Brooklyn to watch me in the middle of my four day alcohol binge, hell, thanks even to the one dame that showed up at the bar only to disappear less than two minutes later.

Thanks to Jim & Jeremy, to Elizabeth, Barbara(who shall forever be my number one), to the B.A.T. crew, and a special thanks to Blaise, who posed and posed, despite rain, odd laundromat light, and me late because I was lost in Brooklyn. Easy to be sweet on a girl like that.

But them's pictures for the future. Today's Sabrina. Enjoy.

Bunch of us met up to do a photo shoot, four photographers, six models, two dogs and enough rain to drown the city. But that was alright, we had enough natural light, studio light and guacamole to pull off a good time despite the deluge.

And then, to boot, it stopped raining long enough for a few outdoor shots. So I dragged a few of the girls out into the streets, snapped off a few shots then ran like a bitch back inside before my precious cameras came in contact with the devil water.

Lauren's got the quirky habit of thanking me every time I take her picture, as if I don't really want to, but am doing her a favor.

I think this picture is proof that I Really want to take her picture as often as possible, and that it's her who's doing me the favor.
