I spent a good portion of yesterday trudging through old memories. Going through nine albums that hold the first Polaroids I ever shot, from 1996 until 2004. The albums start when I was just a bit older than Countess, in between my first and second years of college.

It's a bit disorienting, thinking about where she is in her life, knowing how much life is yet to come, how much life is possible, just based on the twists and turns mine took. There is a mountain of memories in her future, and a time coming in which she, too, will look back and have that entire mountain to deal with.

Interacting with young people only gets weirder, the older I get.

So, my assistant Emily has returned for spring break.


And I'm really happy to see her!!!! YAY!!!! I mean, c'mon, ain't she a peach?

She's only here for a week, which means I only have a week to convince her to drop out of school, move back to LA, and assist me (for free) full time!!!

Easy.

So I'm gonna do my best to show her a great time, i.e. gonna try to shoot as much as possible this week.

So expect a lot of Awesome.

Or a lot of "well, this was Supposed to happen, but..."

But I'm totally expecting awesome.

So that's happening, well, today. Then Vegas.

Why Vegas, you ask.

You'll see, i'll bring back pix. Pix o' madness.

So that's my weekend, because Justin asked.

While I spent most of the last week shooting Carré and her band, Queen Kwong, I did fit in a bit of time to hang out with Aayla, who just happened to be hanging out with Suzii.

Suzii, who I've followed on Flickr for a wee bit, and who I've had on my "reach out to and shoot one of these fine days" list.

Suzii, who I found utterly delightful, taller than I'd expected, sunnier than I'd expected, one a them smiles that gets your feet moving, hips shaking, shoulders wiggling.

Kind of wanted to steal her, take her with me on the rest of the trip...BUT WHO WOULD FEED HER?

So instead we just hung out near a waterfall, and over here on the edge of a cliff, took some pictures, had some laughs, noshed on some Twizzlers and called it a day.

Meaning I'll just have to go back up there...SOON.

As little a thing as sitting down on the ground is often enough to change my perspective completely. It's tweaks that I'm usually after, rather than grand shifts, I'm happy when I can figure out a way to do less and still get a good result.

Sitting is easier than standing, so let's take a whole bunch of pictures while I'm on the ground!

It takes me, ever so slightly, out of the box of limitations I have. Makes me believe I can do more than just close-up portraits. But it also highlights that tension, between "keeping the faith", staying in my style, or breaking out, doing anything But.
