''We must always take from nature what we paint and always choose the most beautiful things.'' - Leon Battista Alberti.

The same could be said of photography - which is painting with light. Each of the elements in this image is 'taken from nature'

Photographed 10 March 2015 in low light conditions using a two-second exposure and natural strongly directional light from a small window.
Nikon D600
24-85 mm lens at 62 mm

Taken 2nd June 2017 in my garden in the Charente, France. My attention (and lens) were focussed on the eye of the hummingbird hawkmoth, so imagine my surprise when I looked at the image on my computer and saw, for the first time, the tiny insect that it completely dwarfs. I have now had help in identifying it. It is a Mediterranean Katydid nymph - Phaneroptera nana nymph.

Camera: Nikon d300
Lens: 200 mm
Exposure settings: ƒ/5.6; 1/750; ISO 141
