One of several photos taken in April 2012, of a pendent flower head on a plant growing in a hedgerow in the filtered light conditions provided by overhanging trees near Nanteuil-en-vallée in the Charente. Finally identified in mid August, as Staphylea pinnata with the help of 'Plantaholic Sheila' whose photostream you can see at (www.flickr.com/photos/11713966@N02/) Many thanks Sheila!
This image taken in soft, dappled light conditions.

For a view of the full flowerhead showing two tiers of flowers and taken under differing light conditions see the earlier image at; www.flickr.com/photos/lorre_01/7090948605/in/photostream

The hooded flowers of the silver leaved dead-nettle (typical of the nettle (lamium) family) - a superb ground-cover plant which when in flower is also useful for attracting insects (bumble bees love it!) Nikon D300; Oradour Fanais, in the Charente, France; 29 May 2009: 08:08

Date/time: 04/03/08; 15:12;17; Camera/lens: Nikon D300 with non-digital 105 mm prime lens; Exposure: Aperture priority set at ƒ32 for maximum DoF to pick out detail in this close-up shot; Resulting 3 second exposure meant that a tripod was essential! Camera position chosen to exploit translucence of trumpet as light filters through it from top-left.

11 June 2009 - What happened!!? - The camera can be candidly, uncompromisingly revealing and life's trials leave their tell-tale marks so visibly on the face don't they - but why do they seem to multiply exponentially from your late sixties onwards??? Can someone explain please? Being male means you don't slap on the smoothing cream (and being a Christian means you can't tell yourself "You're worth it!" as that TV advert tells women to encourage them to use the anti-wrinkle lotions) - So I remain creased and crinkled, lined and lacerated, weathered, warty and worn; grey and almost bald. And no - I'm not in pain - it's just that there are two teeth missing from the denture till I get them fixed, so I daren't laugh, and even smiling is risky ! - The only redeeming feature is the tan! - thank God for the Charentaise sunshine! (Run your cursor over the picture for further commentary)
(Uploaded initially for my "Family Stuff " set and to update Flickr Icon but decided to dedicate this picture to my lovely daughter Emma (in the States) and to my lovely granddaughter (by second marriage) Ruby, in Leeds, UK, neither of whom have a recent picture of 'Dad' /'Granddad')
