Somewhere deep in the Vermillion Cliff Wilderness is a place called White Pocket. Getting there is a challenge and only people that have the appropriate car should adventure there, otherwise you will end up stuck in the deep sand!
This is NOT and understatement!!!

This image was created up at Cedar Mesa (UT) depicting an Ancestral Puebloan dwelling. The uniqueness lays in the pictograph which is not really a pictograph. I would call it a mudgraph as it was not painted with some colors as you would expect if from a pictograph. It was done with mud. The very same mud that was used to plaster the stones together for the dwellings you can see in this image.
The white men came to North America and it was already populated by Native Americans. There was not much respect for these inhabitants. There was not much interest for their cultural values, beliefs and history either. Interest and respect is surfacing slowly and the feeling that the native cultural legacy is to be studied, valued and preserved is coming up. The latest sweeping move in this regard was the creation of the Bears Ears National Monument December 28, 2016. Needless to say that the new administration wants to shrink the boundaries considerably. Drilling, farming and driving off-road vehicles seems to be more important. O tempora o mores!

Unhinged
Join me on my Namibia Photography Tour, March 9 - 20/2022. More details to be found at my website.
Getting up very early with high spirits and hopes to find some diamonds and ghosts in the old ghost town of Kolmanskop by Lüderitz. It didn't end up very successfully. I just found a shabby unhinged door ;-)

This is a neat spot at Glen Canyon, but the challenge is the lack of beaching and camping capabilities. So, you need to time your stay here at sunset very carefully to allow enough time for your boat drive back to your HQ during the rapidly dimming day light, which is about 6 km away. Driving a boat in the dark is not a good idea. Like so many times, photography is about compromises.
The lens was tilted and shifted. Images got finally merged and crafted with Capture One Pro.
