Etendeka Mountain Camp located in Namibia is the perfect example of how African communities learned to cohabit with wildlife, rather then hunting and killing it for some quick money. The preservation and the respect towards wildlife provides a better balance on the long run.
Absolutely everything at the camp was build by locals with material from the area. The same was also with all ingredients used in the kitchen.
The landscape in Etendeka was from another world, but the care to be out there and photograph it was very much from this world. One person was allowed to photograph while the other person was watching out to avoid any sudden appearance of a hungry lioness.

The town of Swakopmund is a failed attempt to have a port build closer to the administrative center of the former colony “Südwest Afrika”, Windhoek. Adolf Lüderitz built the town and port of Lüdertiz in the south of the colony, but this one was quite distant from Windhoek. With Swakopmund it would have been a straight shot to the capital, but the strong current of the sea and the lack of a bay made this a failure. Yet, the town still exists and it is one of the favorite destination for Summer vacation. The cold sea current coming from the South Pole area cools down the temperatures. At the same time the coldness of the sea does not allow evaporation and hence no rain. Similar to the Atacama desert in South America. The entire coast of Namibia is a desert due to this phenomenon.
