An intimate take of a famous spot in the American Southwest called “The Boneyard”. I believe the name was coined after an image from the boutique photographer Michael Fatali.
To get here at the right time requires jumping several hoops.
The most challenging part is getting a permit which allows you to hike to the North Coyote Buttes (“The Wave”). The ideal moment of the year to get there is spring or autumn for two important reasons: the temperatures during the day and the incidence of the morning light on the boneyard.
The second challenge is to start the hike in the complete darkness and be there before sunrise. There is no trail and if you never did this hike during the day light before you most certainly will get lost until there is enough day light to redirect yourself. By then you will not be there for the right light anymore!
