Buðir's little pitch-black church at the Snæfellsnes peninsula is worth the little detour before you get to Arnarstapi. It is a windswept location, former fishing village, surrounded by the Búðahraun lavafield, rumoured to be home to countless elves, and enjoying unsurpassed views out over the Atlantic. The black church with its three white-framed windows dates from 1703, and cuts an evocative image when viewed with the majestic Snæfellsnes mountain range as a backdrop. I was not that lucky as the Snæfellsnes was covered in low and thick clouds, but still lucky enough to get a quite dramatic view of the church anyway.

Interested in a photo tour through the American Southwest? I can help you with it and make you come back with unique shots.
