My sense of adventure was nurtured once by devouring Jules Verne books, particularly “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. During my second last visit to the northwestern New Mexico badlands I had the feeling of being part of this journey. I sweat in the heat, I got almost lost in the darkness, but all was good as I found the “Pillars of the Earth”!

A late afternoon moment at famous Deadvlei, created on my 8th trip to Namibia and after experiencing some 20+ sunsets at this place. The magic never fades and ideas of new compositions never end.

Any interest in joining Willa Wei and me on our 5th Namibia Photography Workshop, February 2024? The photographic highlights are Quiver Tree Forest, Kolmanskop, Sossusvlei, Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour, Spitzkoppe, Himba Village and Etosha National Park!

Dominguez, Dinosaur and Boundary Buttes (Left to Right) at an early morning standing at some island in the middle of Padre Bay. Beautiful sunrise moment at one of my annually Lake Powell Photography Workshops.

Technical detail: The image looks like a long exposure. It isn't! I used a technique available on Phase One called "Average Framing" which ends up with the same final look as using a Big Stopper, but without the filter.

Early, foggy morning at Spitzkoppe arch. Image created at one of my Namibia Photography Workshop. The person in the arch was one of the participants who has been used as focal point through the arch.

Sossusvlei is famous for its adjacent Deadvlei. Thousands of images are to be seen of this place. At my umpteen visit to Sossusvlei I imposed a restriction on myself. Not to go to Deadvlei! I got out of the car and went the opposite direction with an exercise in mind: abstract and intimate images in the sand dunes of Sossusvlei.
