I've seen countless versions of this kind of shot and have always wanted to try one - regardless of how much of a cliche it might be.

The title should be humorous to anyone who knows a bit of French. For those of you who are Franco-impaired, eau is French for water....and it's pronounced "oh". Besides, calling this pic "Hair Spray" was just too obvious, making it even more of a cliche. At least I have what I think is an original title, even if the pic idea isn't so original.

Whoever did this style of shot first certainly deserves kudos for inspiring a lot of wannabe photographers.

Thanks to my young cousin Claire who was a very cooperative first-time model.

I had planned on going to a fireworks show in downtown Nanaimo last night, but this weird storm cell came through about an hour before the show started. From my place, it looked like the downtown area was going to get some major rain, and I really didn't feel like taking pics in a downpour. So instead of going downtown, I stood on the deck and took in the spectacular show Mother Nature provided.

She actually provided two spectacular shows last night. From the back yard, we got this lightning show and from the front yard we got one of the most beautiful sunsets ever (I'll post that pic later).

In hindsight, I should have gone downtown...it would have been really cool to get fireworks and lightning in a single shot....

Huge thanks to whoever balanced these rocks along the Nanaimo shore. It was a nice little find.

It was a strange day in Nanaimo yesterday. We had these wonderful puffy clouds all over the place and it looked like the sunset would be spectacular because of them. Then about 30 minutes before the sun started setting, the clouds went pffft and I had to rely on the ground more than the sky for this shot.

Whenever I see a sunset like this, I expect to hear a big voice coming from the sky to give me a really important message. I never get them unless the message is to photograph the moment.
