El abejorro común (Bombus terrestris) es uno de los abejorro más comunes de Europa. Tiene el cuerpo negro con bandas amarillas. Se diferencia de otras especies de abejorros por el color blanquecino del extremo del abdomen. Es un abejorro grande, la reina es de 2 a 2,7 cm de longitud y las obreras son de 1,5 a 2 cm. La probóscide o lengua de la reina puede ser de 10 mm de largo, con la de las obreras algo más corta.
Bombus terrestris, the buff-tailed bumblebee or large earth bumblebee is one of the most numerous bumblebee species in Europe. They are characterized by their white-ended abdomens. The queen is 2–2.7 cm long, while the workers are 1½–2 cm.

It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. As well as being the scientific name, iris is also very widely used as a common name; for one thing, it refers to all Iris species, though some plants called thus belong to other closely related genera. In North America, a common name for irises is flags, while the plants of the subgenus Scorpiris are widely known as junos, particularly in horticulture. It is a popular garden flower in the United States.

Además de nombre botánico del género, iris es comúnmente usado para referirse a todas las especies, así como a otros varios géneros estrechamente emparentados y a una subdivisión dentro del género.
Las especies están ampliamente distribuidas por todas las regiones templadas del hemisferio norte. Sus hábitats son muy diversos, abarcando desde las regiones frías en laderas herbosas, dehesas, ribazos de ríos hasta desiertos de Europa, el Medio Este y África del Norte y por toda Norte América. Gerbera, es un género de plantas ornamentales de la famila del girasol de las Asteraceae.
Gerbera es muy popular y ampliamente usado como planta de jardín o flores de corte. Los cultivares domesticados son mayormente el resultado de cruzas entre Gerbera jamesonii y otra especie sudafricana Gerbera viridifolia. De dicha cruza se obtuvo Gerbera hybrida. Existen miles de cultivares. Varían grandemente en forma y tamaño. Los colores: blanco, amarilo, naranja, rojo, rosa. El centro de la flor es a veces negro. Frecuentemente la misma flor puede tener pétalos de varios colores.
Gerbera es comercialmente importante. Es la 5ª más usada "flor de corte" del mundo (después de rosa, clavel (carnation), crisantemo, y tulipán).

Gerbera is very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. The domesticated cultivars are mostly a result of a cross between Gerbera jamesonii and another South African species Gerbera viridifolia. The cross is known as Gerbera hybrida. Thousands of cultivars exist. They vary greatly in shape and size. Colors include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink. The center of the flower is sometimes black. Often the same flower can have petals of several different colors.
Gerbera is also important commercially. It is the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip).
