I had one of my "wow, they really think of history differently here" moments here -- we were actually looking at Laurent's old school, which is behind where I'm standing -- but this play yard/basketball court was across the street, and is edged by a remnant of the second wall that encircled Paris -- built in the 1100s. There was small plaque near the sidewalk, but that's it -- no fence separating it from the kids' games, no protective layer of plastic shielding it from the elements or graffiti artists, no tickets being sold. Just a thousand-year-old wall, part of the regular city fabric. I think this is SO cool.
