This time last year, I didn't think I'd ever see this again: Barney on the train! On 21st May it was one year since poor Barney was paralysed, after suffering a spinal stroke. It was so shocking & scary for him & us - I really thought we might lose him. We had to fight just to get a diagnosis & even once we knew what had happened, the prognosis for recovery was pretty poor (you can read what happened on May 2021's pic). However, Barney is a fighter & he has done better than I dared to dream could be possible. He's still got some neurological symptoms & is a bit wibbly wobbly & frail but Barney has regained some muscle in his back legs, he follows me around the house like he used to, loves going on walks (he yells at me if I don't take him out enough!) & is really not looking bad at all considering he's 15 & has had to relearn how to walk over the past year!

Anyway, earlier this month, we decided to see if Barney might be up for a train ride. For years, Barney used to travel about on trains with me pretty often, sometimes, we went on quite long journeys, when we visited friends or family & he learned to really enjoy it. However, once Covid hit, we stopped going on the train very often & then, just when I was starting to think we could take Barney on public transport again, the poor guy had his stroke. For a long time after that, going on a journey on the train would've been very difficult & no fun at all for Barney, he just needed so much physical assistance to move & was easily exhausted. Finally, this month, we felt he's fit enough to maybe enjoy a short ride to the town where we used to live, just 10-15 minutes away. Getting Barney from the platform, *onto* the train was umm, slightly scary but as you can see here, once safely onboard, Barney was pretty excited to be off! It makes me so happy he's improved enough to enjoy a little trip out :)

a shot taken a bit too late in the day, was darkening quickly, the last tree around to do the Autumn leaves thing, I liked to get Biscuit with it in the background ... and so even though there's a bit of movement, a lot of grain, and it's crooked, I wanted to present a Biscuit personality-shot. He can often be found sitting like this about the place, his foot lifted and nose investigating elsewhere :-)

I checked, there are few photos of Saxon for his 12 Month project this year that he isn't with a ball of some description ... this month I had a choice between one with a ball and one without, again, I choose the one with, I reckon, when you break it all down, it's just Saxon, he is truly, fanatically a "ball dog" :-)
