Smoke circle made from single smoke plume, copied and pasted. Colors enhanced with vibrance and Selective Color.
The biggest challenge was exporting this file to post. I have learned a lot of work arounds and my computer doesn't crash as much. I've learned to merge layers as I progress through the edit.
The pattern was less complicated than it looks. I am beginning to envision what the result is before I start. Possibly the result of inhaling too much of my work.

An attempt at putting a bit more distant between the camera and smoke. The area I was shooting is was very small, and I found myself with my back literally against the wall.
The most time consuming part other than set up and take down was removing dust particles. The most challenging part was not tripping over light stands. Photo was cropped at the bottom.

I changed jobs and Studios about 2 months ago and bought a system to work from home to avoid the drive to the valley. My timing for once was good because of what has transpired since.
After a long day sitting at my new computer I wanted to see how it could handle massive photo projects. This is more of a technical shot then a inspired shot made from the photo of one smoke plume copied and pasted 336 times. Usually I save copies at different stages so I can go back and tweak but didn't with this one. I flattened the image to a 31 gig file then compressed it into a small Jpeg to post.
The process helped distract me from work and corona.

Another Rorschach moment in it's simplest form. One incense stick overlaid and mirrored in post. Dust specks removed and
saturation boosted in photoshop.
Two flashes and 2 LED panels for lighting. Lighting Modifiers consisted of LaCroix boxes, printing paper, packing tape and rubber bands. Not very sophisticated with the modifiers but it worked.

Incense stick, fire and a camera. Single Smoke Plum Mirrored, tiled and rotated. I had been using my Milvus Macro lens for most of my smoke shots but read somewhere that 70-200mm zoom works well, so I had to try.
Depending on the angle and frequency of repetition the variations from a single smoke plume, variations are endless.
Spots and blemishes were removed, Hue was adjusted and copy and paste were used in photoshop.
At first I tried to control a few of the variables like draft, light bleed through, lens flare and Smoke build up from poor ventilation. What I found is my more interesting shot have occurred by embracing what I thought were defects. Kinda like how distortion changed the characteristics of electric guitar. Instead of "why", "why not".
