What an AMAZING place.....we made an unplanned stop to Upper Antelope Canyon on our way to Canyon de Chelly. Our Navajo guide was very knowledgeable and quite helpful with pointing out different areas to photograph. I will definitely have to return there one day to spend more time, as there were probably a minimum of 100 tourists in the canyon at the time this shot was taken (thus the reason for shooting high; didn't want people's heads in the shot). If you look really close there is an outline of a bear.

Horse Shoe Bend is another of Mother Nature's little tricks in a whole world of sandstone and slick rock tricks that result in some of the weirdest, and neatest, formations in the west. This is Glen Canyon and the Colorado River downstream from Glen canyon Dam, which holds back Lake Powell. It is within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. And it's definitely worth taking a camera.

Unfortunately for some of us who have a deathly fear of heights, getting to the edge for a pic is a real feat. However, I was fortunate enough to have my husband with me, and he learned how to use the D90 really quick....not bad for his first time around :-)

Antelope Canyon is at once one of the most breathtaking and tranquil places on earth. Gently carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millenniums, the slot canyons are majestic and narrow passages. The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse' bighanilini, which means "the place where water runs through rocks." Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet elevation and the canyon walls rise 120 feet above the streambed.

Upper Antelope Canyon - Page, Arizona.....A long time ago, herds of pronghorn antelope roamed freely in Antelope Canyon, which explains the canyon's English name. It is not known exactly when people first discovered Antelope Canyon. According to local Navajos, who have lived here for some time, the canyon and the LeChee area were places where cattle grazed in winter.

To older Navajos, entering a place like Antelope Canyon was like entering a cathedral (our Navajo guide referred to this image as Monument Valley). They would probaby pause before going in, to be in the right frame of mind and to prepare for protection and respect. This would also allow them to leave with an uplifted feeling of what Mother Nature has to offer and to be in harmony with something greater than themselves. It was (and continues to be) a spiritual experience.

Still sorting through pics from our September trip to the Southwest. This is one of the Colorado River, taken from Horseshoe Bend. Have to give credit to the hubbie for these pics, as I was too much of a scaredy cat to get close to the edge - LOL!!!
