Just love these little guys - saw one a few years ago in the park but this year we saw at least a half dozen or more.

This little guy entertained us for a couple days; everytime we drove by on our way to the Tower store. Last time we saw him, he had crossed the road and was burrowed into a hole on a steep incline.

There were two of these yellow-bellied marmots running around a rock ledge along the Chief Joseph Highway. One was quite shy and elusive, and the other, as you can see, was quite the ham. He didn't mind stopping to pose and was quite inquisitive. The white background was, surprisingly, some very deep snow for late May.

Wandering around at the top of Dead Indian Pass on the Chief Joseph Highway, trying to find a good spot to take a few shots of the gorgeous mountain vistas, and this little marmot scared me half to death. I saw the lump in the rocks near the road and assumed it was just more "road kill." However, as I walked by, he lifted his head, and you can just imagine the rest.....

Quite the entertainer this little guy was....he started off posing on top of the stone guardrail not far from Calcite Springs Overlook and then dropped over the side and scurried along the steep incline, looking for a place to settle outside the direct sunlight. He finally settled on this small bush, although I'm not so sure it provided the shelter he was looking for.
