The museum's architect and project designer is Canadian Douglas Cardinal (Blackfoot); its design architects are GBQC Architects of Philadelphia and architect Johnpaul Jones (Cherokee/Choctaw). The structural engineering firm chosen for this project was Severud Associates. The museum's project architects are Jones & Jones Architects and Landscape Architects Ltd. of Seattle and SmithGroup of Washington, D.C., in association with Lou Weller (Caddo), the Native American Design Collaborative, and Polshek Partnership Architects of New York City; Ramona Sakiestewa (Hopi) and Donna House (Navajo/Oneida) also served as design consultants.

Glenstone is a private contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland, 15 miles (24 km) from downtown Washington, D.C. The museum's exhibitions are drawn from a collection of about 1,300 works from post-World War II artists around the world. It is the largest private contemporary art museum in the United States, and is noted for its setting in a broad natural landscape.

The Robert C. Weaver Federal Building, located at 451 Seventh Street, SW, Washington, DC, is a ten story federal office building designed by architect Marcel Breuer, a master of the modern architectural movement in the United States. The building was constructed for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The design team for the building included Herbert Beckhard and Nolen Swinburne Associates. The builder was John McShain, Inc., under supervision of the General Services Administration. The cornerstone for the building was laid in November 1966. The building was formally opened and dedicated by Secretary Robert C. Weaver on September 9, 1968, and renamed in his honor July 11, 2000.
